Injection & Infusion

Injection and infusion are methods of delivering medications and fluids directly into the body, commonly used in medical settings. Here’s an overview of both processes, including types, techniques, indications, and considerations.

Types of Injections
  • Intravenous (IV): Check for breath sounds and assess for any signs of obstruction.
  • Intramuscular (IM): Inspect the stoma and surrounding skin for irritation or infection.
  • Subcutaneous (SubQ): Monitor respiratory rate, effort, and oxygen saturation.
  • Intradermal (ID): Monitor respiratory rate, effort, and oxygen saturation.
Types of Infusions
  • IV Infusion: Continuous delivery of fluids or medications via an IV line.
  • Bolus Infusion: Rapid delivery of a medication over a short period.
  • Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN): Nutritional support delivered through IV.
